It trades through the registered company Aldi Stores Limited, incorporated in 1988, with its head office at Holly Lane, Atherstone, Warwickshire. Aldi opened its first UK store in Stechford, Birmingham, on 5 April 1990 and has grown to 1,085 stores across England, Scotland and Wales as of 2026.
The company is a private business held within the Aldi Sud group, so it does not have a stock market listing or a public market value. For the 12 months to December 2024 Aldi UK reported sales of GBP 18.1bn, up from GBP 17.9bn the year before, while operating profit fell to GBP 435.5m as the retailer cut prices, raised colleague pay and invested in infrastructure. It became the UK's third largest grocer by value during 2025, with a market share around 10.8%.
Aldi UK employs about 46,200 people and is led by chief executive Giles Hurley, who has run the UK and Ireland business since 2016. A January 2025 board restructure created new roles, with Julie Ashfield becoming chief commercial officer and Dan Ronald and Ruth Doyle taking chief operating officer posts. The company has confirmed a GBP 1.6bn investment plan to open further stores over the following two years.

Aldi confirms 16 new UK stores in £370m expansion push
Aldi announced 16 new store openings across the UK, including Watford, Hoxton, Hattersley and Balsall Common, backed by a £370 million investment in new shops during 2026. The openings move Aldi toward its long-term ambition of 1,500 UK stores, up from more than 1,080 today.

Aldi sets new benchmark as UK's highest-paying supermarket
Aldi said store assistant starting pay will rise to £13.50 an hour nationally and £14.88 inside the M25 from 1 April 2026, going up to £14.47 and £15.20 with service. The move benefits over 28,000 hourly-paid colleagues as part of a £42 million pay investment for 2026.

Aldi store colleagues get first of two 2026 pay rises
Aldi confirmed store assistant pay would rise to £13.35 an hour nationally and £14.71 inside the M25 from 1 March 2026, part of a £36 million investment. The retailer also highlighted maternity pay extended to 26 weeks at full pay and paid breaks worth up to £1,470 a year.
