Below big-firm quotes, US delivery
Hyring provides IT staff augmentation: dedicated engineers who work inside your team, on your systems, to your priorities, while we employ them and handle payroll, compliance, and benefits. Delivery is available in the US or from India at 60 to 70% below US contractor cost, and every engineer completes an AI coding interview before you review them.
The reason this model is chronically underused is a framing error. Engineering leaders treat headcount as the unit of capacity, so a twelve-month project becomes a permanent hire, and eighteen months later somebody is managing a good engineer out of a role that was always going to end. Augmentation decouples capacity from headcount. You get the engineer without the permanence, and without the severance conversation when the work finishes.
What Staff Augmentation Is, Precisely
You direct the work and the engineer sits in your team; Hyring is the legal employer handling payroll, compliance, and benefits.
The distinction from the adjacent models matters commercially. Not consulting: we do not scope a deliverable or manage the project, your engineering manager does, which is why augmentation costs a fraction of an agency statement of work. Not contract staffing: traditional contract firms bill a 40 to 60% markup over the worker's pay rate; we price as a service roughly 30% below big-firm quotes and charge no conversion fee if the role becomes permanent. Not offshore outsourcing: you are not handing a module to a vendor team, you are adding named engineers to your standups who work your backlog.
What It Actually Costs
A senior engineer costs about $225,000 a year through a US contract firm, $257,000 as a US direct hire at a 25% fee, and about $58,000 all-in through India augmentation.
Two corrections to how these numbers usually get compared. Companies routinely compare a contractor's rate against a permanent engineer's salary, which understates the contractor by the markup and understates the permanent hire by benefits and payroll taxes. And the India column is frequently compared against a US salary rather than a US fully loaded cost, which understates the gap by roughly a third.
How Fast Capacity Arrives
Augmentation delivers a working engineer in two to three weeks against roughly thirteen for a permanent US hire including notice.
The Screening That Makes It Work
Every engineer completes an AI coding interview configured to the discipline, so your team reviews working code rather than a recruiter's assessment.
The screen is configured per discipline rather than run generically, because a backend engineer, an SRE, a data engineer, and an embedded developer fail in different ways. The AI Coding Interviewer assesses working code and the reasoning behind it; the AI Video Interviewer covers architecture discussion and how someone explains a decision made under constraint; the English proficiency test applies where the engineer will work across time zones in writing.
Round one, already done
Every candidate completes an AI first round before you see them: video, coding, phone, or the English test.
Every applicant ranked
The AI Resume Screener scores the full funnel against your brief, so nothing strong gets buried under volume.
Thousands of recruiters
The Recruiting Partners network works each role nationally, paid on placements, every submission passing the same screen.
Panel rounds in Hyring Meet
Interviews are scheduled and held in Hyring Meet, so invites and recordings stay attached to the candidate record.
One portal, no chasing
Every candidate uploaded with recording and score, clear stages your whole team sees, feedback on the profile instead of an email thread.
Transparency after the hire
Augmented teams run on Insight by Hyring, employees seeing their own data first. SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified.
The India Question, Answered Honestly
India delivery works well for defined engineering capacity on overlapping hours, and works badly where deep product context or same-room collaboration decides the outcome.
Where it works: platform and backend work, data engineering, QA and test automation, cloud and infrastructure, application development against a reasonably clear backlog, and sustained capacity on a product that already has direction. Engineers work US-overlap hours, join your standups, and are employed and payrolled by us, so there is no contractor classification exposure on your side.
Where it does not: founding engineering roles where the person shapes what gets built, work requiring constant unstructured collaboration with product and design, anything bound to physical hardware or a lab, and situations where your own engineering practices are unformed, because augmentation amplifies whatever process exists rather than supplying one.
What makes the difference in practice is not the engineers, it is whether the receiving team has a backlog someone else can read. Teams with clear tickets, written context, and a review culture get value in week two. Teams that operate on hallway conversation struggle regardless of who they hire, and we would rather say that at the briefing than three months into an engagement.
Transparency runs through Insight by Hyring, our time tracking product: tracked hours and focus patterns visible to both sides, with the employee seeing their own data first. Managers get aggregate visibility they can query rather than individual surveillance, which is a deliberate position rather than a limitation.
Fact
90-day replacement commitment. If a placed hire leaves within 90 days, we replace them under the agreed terms. Ask any agency whether their guarantee provides a replacement or a refund, and over what period, because those are materially different commitments that get conflated in most contracts.
When Augmentation Is the Wrong Answer
Choose permanent hiring for roles that shape direction, and consulting for work where someone else should own the outcome.

FAQs
US delivery prices roughly 30% below big-firm quotes. India delivery typically runs $45,000 to $65,000 a year fully loaded per engineer, salary included, against about $225,000 for the equivalent through a US contract staffing firm at a typical 50% markup.
