BYJU'S is the brand of Think & Learn Private Limited, an Indian educational technology company incorporated on 30 November 2011 and headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It was founded by Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath and became known for its K-12 learning app covering classes 1 to 12 and competitive exam preparation such as IAS, CAT, GATE and bank exams.

Once India's most valuable startup, BYJU'S peaked at a valuation of about US$22 billion in March 2022. For fiscal year 2022 it reported revenue of roughly Rs 5,298 crore (about US$550 million) alongside a net loss of about Rs 8,245 crore. The company is privately held and does not separately disclose an audited market capitalization; its valuation subsequently collapsed amid mounting losses and disputes.

Since 2024 the company has been under insolvency. Its US division filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware on 1 February 2024, and in India it is under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP), with the founder-directors stripped of managerial control and Ernst & Young partner Shailendra Ajmera acting as resolution professional. India's Supreme Court has allowed the insolvency proceedings to continue.

BYJU'S Interview Questions & Answers

Q: Convince me to buy a book from you.

A: This is a live sales test. Pick one book, open with a question about what the buyer cares about, tie the book's benefit to that need, and close with a clear ask.

Answer by AI
  • Qualify first: ask what the person reads or wants to learn.
  • Sell the outcome, not the features: connect the book to their goal.
  • Close with a simple next step and handle one objection calmly.

Q: How would you sell Byju's to a parent who is completely unaware of the company?

A: Start by learning the child's grade and pain points, then explain how personalized learning and progress tracking help, using proof like ratings or a free trial before asking for the sign-up.

Answer by AI
  • Discover the child's class, subjects, and where they struggle.
  • Frame the product around measurable learning outcomes for the child.
  • Offer a low-risk next step like a free demo class.

Q: How is Sales different from Marketing?

A: Marketing creates awareness and demand across a broad audience, while sales converts individual leads into paying customers through direct conversations. Marketing is one-to-many; sales is one-to-one.

Answer by AI
  • Marketing builds demand and brand at scale; sales closes deals.
  • Marketing is one-to-many; sales is one-to-one.
  • They share a funnel: marketing feeds leads that sales converts.

Q: You are an engineer, and you wish to pursue a career in BDA. What makes you do that?

A: Be honest about why sales appeals to you. Link your engineering background to skills that help in a BDA role, like problem solving and structured thinking, and show genuine interest in customer conversations.

Answer by AI
  • Own the switch: explain what draws you to sales, not just away from engineering.
  • Bridge your skills: analytical thinking and communication both help in BDA.
  • Show evidence: any past experience persuading or helping people.
