Coal India Interview Questions & Answers

Q: Introduce yourself and tell us about your hometown.

A: Keep it to a 60 to 90 second pitch: your name, education, one or two strengths tied to the role, then a warm line about your hometown. Practice it out loud so it sounds natural, not memorized.

Answer by AI
  • Lead with a crisp headline: who you are and your engineering or domain background.
  • Bridge to why Coal India: mention public sector scale, mining technology, or stability that draws you.
  • Close with your hometown in one or two lines, linking a local detail to a personal strength.

Q: Who is the current Coal Minister, and who is the chairman of Coal India?

A: The Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Coal India is B. Sairam, who took charge in December 2025. For the Union Coal Minister, confirm the current office holder from official sources before your interview, since cabinet roles change.

Answer by AI
  • Name the current CMD: B. Sairam, effective December 2025.
  • Check the latest Union Minister of Coal on official government sources close to your interview date.
  • Show sector awareness: Coal India holds Maharatna status under the Ministry of Coal.

Q: What is an algorithm?

A: An algorithm is a finite, well-defined sequence of steps that takes input and produces output to solve a specific problem. Good algorithms are correct, unambiguous, and terminate in finite time.

Answer by AI
  • Define it as a step-by-step, finite procedure to solve a problem or compute a result.
  • Note key properties: definiteness, finiteness, input, output, and effectiveness.
  • Give a quick example like sorting or searching to ground the definition.

Q: What is the time complexity of quicksort in the best and worst cases?

A: Quicksort runs in O(n log n) in the best and average cases when partitions are balanced. Its worst case is O(n squared), which happens when the pivot is repeatedly the smallest or largest element, such as on already sorted data with a poor pivot choice.

Answer by AI
  • Best and average case: O(n log n) with balanced partitions.
  • Worst case: O(n squared) on already sorted or reverse sorted input with a bad pivot.
  • Mitigation: randomized or median-of-three pivot selection keeps it near O(n log n).
