foodpanda is an online food and grocery delivery platform founded in Singapore on 26 March 2012 by Lukas Nagel and Rico Wyder. It's owned by Berlin-listed Delivery Hero SE and runs from an Asia-Pacific headquarters at 63 Robinson Road in Singapore. Its own careers site describes it as the largest food and grocery delivery platform in Asia outside China, working across more than 400 cities.

The company operates in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan. Alongside restaurant delivery it runs pandamart, its own quick-commerce grocery format. foodpanda left Thailand on 23 May 2025 after years of losses, though Delivery Hero kept an APAC regional team based there. It has had no consumer operation in India since the business was sold to Ola in 2017 and the service was suspended in 2019.

Ownership is in flux. In March 2026 Delivery Hero agreed to sell foodpanda's Taiwan delivery business to Grab for USD 600 million, and in July 2026 Uber agreed to acquire Delivery Hero itself in an all-stock deal valued at about USD 14.8 billion. Delivery Hero reported EUR 14.06 billion of revenue for 2025 and employs roughly 54,700 people group-wide. foodpanda's own revenue isn't broken out separately.

Foodpanda Interview Questions & Answers

Q: How would you handle expansion of delivery logistics across the market?

A: Answer with a sequence rather than a plan: pick the expansion unit, prove the unit works, then repeat it. Show that you'd tie each new city or zone to a demand signal and a supply plan before spending.

Answer by AI
  • Define the smallest expansion unit you can measure, usually a delivery zone, and name the metrics that say it's healthy: order density, rider utilisation, delivery time and cost per order.
  • Sequence supply and demand together. Onboard enough restaurants and riders to hold delivery times before marketing spend brings in orders, otherwise the first customer experience is the worst one.
  • Set a go or no-go gate for each new zone with a fixed review window, and be explicit about what you'd shut down if the gate isn't met.

Q: How would you improve rider compliance?

A: Split compliance into can't comply and won't comply, then fix each with a different lever. Process and tooling fixes come first, incentives second, enforcement last.

Answer by AI
  • Start by measuring which rules get broken most and where, so you're solving the top two or three problems instead of everything at once.
  • Remove friction first: if a step is slow or unclear in the rider app, compliance drops for reasons that aren't about willingness.
  • Then tie the behaviour to something riders feel, such as batch quality or ratings, and keep enforcement as a clear, consistently applied final step.

Q: How to reduce cash lost?

A: Treat cash loss as a controls problem. Map every point where cash changes hands, quantify leakage at each, and close the biggest gaps with reconciliation and settlement design.

Answer by AI
  • Map the cash journey end to end: customer to rider, rider to hub or bank, hub to company account. Loss almost always sits at one handover.
  • Shorten the time cash sits with any individual, add daily settlement limits, and reconcile order value against deposits per rider per day.
  • Push volume toward digital payment where you can, since the cheapest way to lose less cash is to handle less of it.

Q: What are the core things you need to keep in mind to establish a distribution center?

A: Cover location, layout, staffing, inventory and systems, in that order, and connect each choice back to delivery time and cost per order.

Answer by AI
  • Location drives everything downstream: pick for coverage of demand density and travel time, not for cheap rent alone.
  • Design layout around pick speed for the fastest-moving items, and size staffing to peak hours rather than daily averages.
  • Get inventory accuracy and system integration right from day one, because stock-outs and wrong counts show up directly as cancelled orders.
