Tata, and was renamed Air India in 1946 before decades of state ownership. The Tata Group reacquired the airline in January 2022, returning it to private hands. After Vistara merged into it in 2024, Air India Limited is now owned by the Tata Group (74.9%) and Singapore Airlines (25.1%). The current corporate entity carries CIN U62200HR2007PLC111539 and was incorporated in 2007.
The airline flies from its primary hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, with secondary hubs at Mumbai and Bengaluru and focus cities including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram. It operated a fleet of about 189 aircraft as of November 2025 and employed roughly 21,000 people. N. Chandrasekaran chairs the board and Sanjay Sharma is the chief financial officer. Campbell Wilson has been CEO and managing director since 2022, but he's stepping down in 2026, and an interim committee including Chandrasekaran and former Air India CMD Pradeep Singh Kharola is running the airline while the board searches for a permanent successor.
Air India is unlisted, held privately through the Tata Group, so it has no market capitalisation or separate stock ticker. It's in the middle of a multi-year transformation and fleet-expansion program backed by an order book of nearly 600 aircraft. For the financial year ended March 2025, Air India Limited reported standalone revenue of about Rs 61,080 crore and a standalone net loss near Rs 3,976 crore (about US$415 million). On a consolidated group basis, including low-cost arm Air India Express, revenue was around Rs 78,636 crore with a wider loss of about Rs 10,859 crore.

Air India to restore most suspended flights from September 2026
Air India will resume most of the domestic and international capacity it cut by about 10% to 15% during June to August, its Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer said. Services to Chicago and Washington will stay suspended due to aircraft constraints.
