DBS Bank Interview Questions & Answers

Q: Given a string of parentheses, print the minimum number of deletions needed to balance them.

A: Scan the string with an open-bracket counter, incrementing on '(' and decrementing on ')'. When the counter would go negative, that ')' is unmatched so count a deletion and reset to zero; any open brackets left at the end add to the total.

Answer by AI
  • Scan left to right keeping an open-paren counter.
  • Each ')' with no matching '(' adds a deletion, and don't drop below zero.
  • Add any unmatched '(' left at the end for the minimum deletions.

Q: Form the largest number by concatenating all the elements of an array.

A: Convert the numbers to strings and sort them with a custom comparator that compares a+b against b+a, placing whichever concatenation is larger first, then join. Guard the all-zeros case so the result isn't '000'.

Answer by AI
  • Convert each number to a string.
  • Sort with comparator a+b vs b+a, descending.
  • Join the sorted strings; if it starts with 0, return '0'.

Q: Write a program to print a pattern, and write a program for Bubble Sort.

A: For the pattern use nested loops, an outer loop for rows and an inner loop for the characters in each row. Bubble sort repeatedly compares adjacent elements and swaps out-of-order pairs, bubbling the largest to the end on each pass.

Answer by AI
  • Pattern: outer loop for rows, inner loop prints each row.
  • Bubble sort: compare adjacent pairs and swap if out of order.
  • Repeat passes until none swap; time complexity O(n^2).

Q: Tell me about yourself, and explain your project in detail.

A: Give a tight present, past, future intro, then walk through one project covering the problem, your specific contribution, the tech stack, and the measurable result. Keep it structured so the interviewer can probe deeper.

Answer by AI
  • Open with a 30-second present, past, future summary.
  • Pick one project and use problem, action, result.
  • Name your exact role and tools, then invite follow-ups.
