General Motors Company is an American automaker founded on September 16, 1908, with the present entity incorporated on July 10, 2009. It's headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, and trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker GM. The company designs and builds trucks, crossovers and cars under the Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac brands, and it reported revenue of US$185.02 billion for fiscal 2025 with about 156,000 employees.
GM left the Indian passenger vehicle market in December 2017 and sold its Gujarat plant to SAIC Motor. The Talegaon plant kept running for export production until December 2020, and Hyundai Motor India acquired that facility in January 2024. What remains in India is engineering work: General Motors Technical Centre India Private Limited (CIN U74200HR2009PTC074424, incorporated May 25, 2009) operates out of Bengaluru with a registered office in Gurugram, and reported FY2025 revenue of Rs 281.68 crore and 337 employees as of January 2026. A separate legal entity, General Motors India Private Limited, is also still active.
The Bengaluru centre focuses on manufacturing engineering, automation, simulation and virtual engineering, and it supports GM vehicle programmes globally rather than an Indian sales business. In 2019 more than 1,300 GM employees at the Bengaluru technical centre transferred to Tata Consultancy Services under an engineering and design services arrangement. GM's current Indian job postings are almost entirely engineering roles based in Bengaluru, covering controls, paint process, BIW tool design, CAE and CFD simulation, throughput simulation and AI/ML virtual engineering.

GM reports Q2 2026 results and raises full-year guidance
GM posted second-quarter 2026 revenue of $48.0 billion, net income of $1.3 billion and EBIT-adjusted of $3.9 billion. It raised full-year EBIT-adjusted guidance to $14.0 billion to $16.0 billion and declared a quarterly dividend of $0.18 per share.

Chevrolet and Cadillac scale back EV plans as GM shifts back to gas
Mary Barra said Cadillac will launch new internal combustion models next spring, including updated CT5, XT5 and XT6, dropping the earlier all-electric-by-2030 goal. Chevrolet Bolt EV production ends this year and will be replaced by a gas-powered crossover built in Kansas.

GM invests $275 million in Spring Hill plant for a new Cadillac model
About $150 million supports a future internal combustion Cadillac model, taking the Tennessee plant to five vehicles built on site. The remaining $125 million refurbishes equipment and extends GM's 2.7L engine programme for the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Sierra.

GM reports Q1 2026 results and lifts guidance on lower tariff costs
First-quarter revenue was $43.6 billion with net income of $2.6 billion and EBIT-adjusted of $4.3 billion. GM cut its expected 2026 gross tariff costs to $2.5 billion to $3.5 billion, helped by about $0.5 billion of relief from a US Supreme Court decision on IEEPA tariffs.

GM starts public-road testing of eyes-off automated driving
GM is testing a next-generation automated driving system with about 200 prototypes in California and Michigan, using cameras, lidar and radar with centralised computing. The eyes-off highway system is planned to debut on the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ.
