IndiGo is the brand name of InterGlobe Aviation Limited, a Gurugram-headquartered airline founded in 2005 by Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal that started flying in August 2006. It runs a low-cost, single-fleet-family model built around low fares, high aircraft utilisation and on-time performance. By August 2025 it held about 64% of India's domestic market, and its fleet had grown to 441 aircraft by March 31, 2026.
The airline carried more than 123 million passengers in FY26 and operates roughly 2,150 daily flights across 670-plus direct routes, of which over 150 are international. It's listed on both Indian exchanges (NSE: INDIGO, BSE: 539448) and reported FY26 revenue from operations of ₹84,962 crore, up 5.15% year on year, alongside a net loss of ₹2,393.6 crore that management attributed largely to foreign exchange losses and exceptional items.
FY26 was a turbulent year. A December 2025 crew-scheduling failure tied to new flight duty time limitation rules led to roughly 4,500 cancellations and a record ₹22.2 crore DGCA penalty in January 2026. CEO Pieter Elbers left in March 2026, and the board named former British Airways and IAG chief Willie Walsh as CEO, with co-founder Rahul Bhatia holding the reins until Walsh joins. At its June 2026 analyst day the company laid out a plan to reach 550-plus aircraft and 200 million annual passengers by FY2030, backed by A321XLR and A350-900 orders.

IndiGo launches first commercial flights from Noida International Airport
The airline became the launch carrier at Jewar's Noida International Airport with initial services to Lucknow and Bengaluru. From July 1, 2026 it began expanding the base to more than 16 Indian cities including Chandigarh, Jaipur, Bhopal, Dehradun and Srinagar.

IndiGo sets FY2030 target of 550-plus aircraft and 200 million passengers
At its June 2026 analyst day the airline outlined plans to grow from 441 to more than 550 aircraft, lift annual passengers from 123 million to 200 million, and take international flying to nearly 40% of capacity by FY2030. The plan leans on Airbus A321XLR medium-haul jets and 60 firm A350-900s arriving from 2027.

IndiGo posts FY26 net loss of ₹2,394 crore despite revenue growth
Revenue from operations for FY26 rose 5.15% to ₹84,962 crore, but the airline swung to a full-year loss of ₹2,393.6 crore, including a Q4 loss of ₹2,536.9 crore, on foreign exchange losses and exceptional charges. No dividend, buyback or bonus was announced.

IndiGo names Willie Walsh as Chief Executive Officer
The board of InterGlobe Aviation appointed IATA Director General William "Willie" Walsh, previously CEO of British Airways and IAG, as CEO subject to regulatory approvals, with a start date no later than August 3, 2026. He replaces Pieter Elbers, who exited about three weeks earlier, with co-founder Rahul Bhatia leading in the interim.

DGCA fines IndiGo ₹22.2 crore over December 2025 flight chaos
India's aviation regulator imposed a record ₹22.2 crore penalty and required a ₹50 crore bank guarantee after IndiGo cancelled about 4,500 flights between December 2 and 9, 2025 when it failed to adapt to new crew duty time rules. Several executives were warned and one senior vice president was directed to be relieved of his role.
