Flipkart Internet Private Limited is an Indian e-commerce company headquartered at Embassy Tech Village on Outer Ring Road in Bengaluru. Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, both IIT Delhi alumni and former Amazon employees, started it on 22 October 2007 from a two-bedroom apartment in Koramangala, selling only books at first. The catalogue later grew into consumer electronics, fashion, home essentials, groceries and lifestyle products. Walmart Inc. has held a controlling stake since 2018, when it paid about $16 billion for roughly 77% of the company.
The group runs several businesses beyond the flagship marketplace. Controlled companies include the fashion platform Myntra, the logistics arm Ekart, the travel booking site Cleartrip, the value commerce app Shopsy, Flipkart Wholesale and the fintech app super.money. Flipkart added UPI payments with Axis Bank in March 2024 and entered quick commerce in August 2024 with Flipkart Minutes, which had crossed roughly 800 dark stores by April 2026 and plans to roughly double that count by the end of the year. A 2023 AllianceBernstein report put Flipkart's share of Indian e-commerce at 48%, ahead of Amazon India and Meesho.
Flipkart Internet Private Limited reported revenue of Rs 20,746 crore in FY25, up 14.07% year on year. The company is preparing for a domestic listing: in December 2025 the National Company Law Tribunal approved merging eight Singapore-registered entities into Flipkart Internet, moving the holding company back to India after 14 years abroad, with draft IPO papers expected in 2026. Hiring is concentrated in Bengaluru and spans engineering, data science and AI, product management, business development and advertising sales, with recent senior additions across supply chain technology, fintech engineering and business finance.
