IQVIA Interview Questions & Answers

Q: Walk me through the early stages: what happens after the HR phone screen and what does the assessment cover?

A: Candidates report a short HR phone screening first, then an AMCAT style online test with an aptitude and logical reasoning section plus an English grammar section. Treat it as a timed screening filter rather than a domain test.

Answer by AI
  • Say the first call is a recruiter screen covering your background, notice period, location preference and interest in pharmacovigilance.
  • Explain that the online assessment splits into aptitude and logical reasoning plus English grammar, so revise both rather than only drug safety topics.
  • Mention you'd practise timed aptitude sets and grammar sections beforehand, since speed matters more than depth in a screening test.

Q: SAS questions and SDTM variables: what should you be ready to explain?

A: Expect direct technical questions on SAS procedures and data steps alongside SDTM domain structure and variable naming. Be ready to explain how raw clinical data maps into standardised domains.

Answer by AI
  • Cover core SAS ground first: data step logic, merges, PROC SQL, PROC SORT, PROC TRANSPOSE and macro variables.
  • For SDTM, explain the domain idea (DM, AE, LB, VS) and the required identifier, topic, timing and qualifier variable roles.
  • Close by describing how you'd validate a mapping, for example running the standard compliance checks and reconciling counts against the raw dataset.

Q: In DBMS, which data structure is used?

A: Interviewers want the B tree and B+ tree answer for indexing, with hashing mentioned for equality lookups. Add why B+ trees suit range queries and disk based storage.

Answer by AI
  • Lead with B+ trees as the standard index structure, because leaf nodes are linked and support range scans efficiently.
  • Mention hash indexes for exact match lookups, and note they can't serve range queries.
  • Add supporting structures if asked: heaps for unordered storage, bitmap indexes for low cardinality columns.

Q: Which is your favourite subject and why?

A: This checks depth, not preference. Pick a subject that connects to the analyst role, give one concrete thing you built or solved in it, and say what you'd still like to learn.

Answer by AI
  • Choose a subject that maps to the job, such as DBMS, statistics or data structures, so follow up questions land on your strong ground.
  • Give one specific project or problem from that subject and the result, rather than saying you find it interesting.
  • Finish with what you're still learning in it, which shows curiosity and invites the interviewer to probe where you're comfortable.
