HDFC Bank Limited is India's largest private-sector bank by assets. It was incorporated in Mumbai on 30 August 1994 as a subsidiary of Housing Development Finance Corporation and started banking operations in January 1995. The Reserve Bank of India classifies it as a Domestic Systemically Important Bank. The company is listed on the NSE (HDFCBANK), the BSE (500180) and the NYSE (HDB) through American Depositary Shares, with a market capitalisation of about ₹11.48 lakh crore.

The bank runs a full-service franchise across retail banking, wholesale and corporate banking, treasury, payments, wealth management and housing finance. It operated 9,694 branches as of June 2026, alongside roughly 21,417 ATMs. Overseas it has branches in Bahrain, Hong Kong, Singapore and London, an IFSC banking unit at GIFT City, and representative offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Nairobi. Two large deals shaped its scale: the acquisition of Centurion Bank of Punjab in 2008 and the reverse merger with parent HDFC Ltd completed on 1 July 2023.

For FY2025-26 the bank reported consolidated revenue of about ₹3.49 lakh crore and employed 211,178 people as of 31 March 2026, about 3,343 fewer than a year earlier as automation absorbed non-supervisory work. In Q1 FY27 it posted profit after tax of roughly ₹19,060 crore with net interest margin compressed to 3.26 percent. Its FY26 annual report set out an AI-first agenda built around an in-house generative AI platform called Neev, plus shareholder approval sought for a ₹60,000 crore bond raise.

HDFC Bank Interview Questions & Answers

Q: Self introduction. Qualifications. Job description

A: Give a 60 to 90 second introduction that moves from your qualification to your current work to why this coordination role fits you. Close by describing the role in your own words so the panel knows you've read the job description.

Answer by AI
  • Open with name, degree and years of experience, then one line on the kind of banking work you've handled.
  • Pick two examples that show coordination: managing reporting for a regional head, chasing targets across branches, or pulling data for reviews.
  • End by restating the role as you understand it and naming the one part you're strongest at.

Q: Basic banking products and process and knowledge check

A: Expect rapid questions on savings and current accounts, fixed and recurring deposits, retail loans, KYC and account opening steps. Answer with the product, who it suits and the process step that most often goes wrong.

Answer by AI
  • Group products into three buckets: liabilities, assets and third-party (insurance, mutual funds), then speak to each.
  • For process questions, walk the sequence: KYC documents, verification, system entry, approval, activation.
  • Tie every product back to a customer segment so it doesn't sound like memorised material.

Q: Able to do sales, irrespective of any roles

A: This checks whether you'll accept a target even in a non-sales title. Say yes if you mean it, then back it with a time you cross-sold or sourced business alongside your main job.

Answer by AI
  • Answer the intent directly: most branch roles at the bank carry some sourcing or cross-sell expectation.
  • Use one concrete example of a target you carried and what you did in the weeks you were behind.
  • Avoid over-promising numbers you can't explain if they probe.

Q: They asked basic questions on operations of installment loans

A: Cover how an instalment loan is booked, how EMIs are scheduled between principal and interest, what happens on a bounced instalment and how overdue accounts get classified and followed up.

Answer by AI
  • Walk the lifecycle: sanction, disbursement, repayment schedule, closure or foreclosure.
  • Explain that early EMIs are interest-heavy and later ones principal-heavy, and why part-prepayment changes the schedule.
  • Mention the operational controls you'd watch: mandate registration, bounce handling and reconciliation.
