ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited is India's largest private-sector general insurer. It was set up in 2001 as a joint venture between ICICI Bank and Canada's Fairfax Financial Holdings, and Fairfax exited its holding fully in 2019. The company is listed on both Indian exchanges (NSE: ICICIGI, BSE: 540716) and runs from ICICI Lombard House in Prabhadevi, Mumbai.

The product range covers motor, health, crop, fire, marine, engineering, travel, home, personal accident and liability insurance, sold through agents, bancassurance partners, brokers, corporate tie-ups and direct digital channels. Wikipedia records 312 branches and 840 virtual offices across India. In 2020 the company absorbed Bharti AXA General Insurance through a share-swap deal, which added scale in retail and rural distribution.

For FY2026 the company reported revenue of about INR 26,994 crore and gross direct premium income of INR 28,712 crore, up from INR 26,833 crore in FY2025. Headcount stood at 15,008 as of March 31, 2026. Recent quarters have been mixed: Q4 FY26 profit rose 7.3 percent, while Q1 FY27 profit fell 46 percent after a Supreme Court ruling on motor third-party compensation forced extra claim reserves.

ICICI Lombard Interview Questions & Answers

Q: What is insurance?

A: Insurance is a contract where you pay a premium and the insurer agrees to cover a defined financial loss if a specified event happens. Keep the definition short, then give one everyday example such as motor or health cover.

Answer by AI
  • Define it as risk transfer: many people pay small premiums into a pool, and the pool pays the few who suffer a loss.
  • Name the moving parts you'd work with daily: policy, premium, sum insured, claim and exclusions.
  • Close with a concrete example tied to the company, like a motor own-damage claim or a cashless hospital claim.

Q: What do you know about ICICI Lombard?

A: Show you did homework: it's India's largest private general insurer, founded in 2001, headquartered in Mumbai and listed as ICICIGI on the NSE. Mention a product line you'd actually be handling.

Answer by AI
  • Anchor on the basics you can verify: 2001 founding, Mumbai HQ, listed on NSE and BSE, roughly 15,000 employees.
  • Name the lines of business relevant to the role, such as motor, health, crop, fire, marine and travel.
  • Add one recent signal you've read about, then link it to why the role interests you.

Q: All relevant questions related to your CV.

A: Expect a line-by-line walk through your resume. Be ready to explain every date, number and job change without notes, because inconsistencies are what interviewers probe.

Answer by AI
  • Rehearse a 90-second version of each role: what you owned, the numbers you hit, why you left.
  • Have proof points ready for any metric on the page, since sales interviewers will ask how you measured it.
  • Flag gaps or short stints yourself before you're asked, with a plain reason and what you learned.

Q: About work experience: why do you want to join the company and the general insurance industry?

A: Connect your track record to the specific channel you'd sell through, then explain what draws you to general insurance rather than to insurance in general.

Answer by AI
  • Structure the answer as fit, then motivation: what your experience maps to, then why this industry.
  • Point at something concrete about general insurance you find interesting, like renewal-driven revenue or claims service as the real product.
  • End with what you want to do in the first year, so the answer reads as a plan and not flattery.
